Other comments on the Evaluation

A) FIRST EDITION OF RECORDS (ACTAS ) IN DECEMBER

a) Continuous assessment

Students will be assessed at the end of the term on the basis of their continuous performance throughout the course. The continuous assessment system will comprise the following obligatory parameters (figures in brackets indicate the percentages of the final mark):

(1) A test (15%) on the theoretical contents, exercise, problem-solving related to the first 4 units of the syllabus and a phonological transcription. The test will be held in class in the week immediately after finishing unit 4. The exact date will be announced in class and over the MooVi platform well in advance.

(2) A lab test (10%) on the lab activities of auditory discrimination and oral production. The exact date will be announced in class and over the MooVi platform well in advance.

(3) Submission of specific assignments (exercises, transcriptions, recordings, tests, etc.), which will be asked to be done either in the classroom or as homework, with or without prior notice, and degree of performance of autonomous online activities (15%).

Note: Failure to submit an assignment within the timespan assigned and in the format requested will count as a zero.

(4) Final theory exam (40%): It will cover all the theoretical and practical contents presented throughout the term, including obligatory reading assignments from both the coursebook and supplementary sources. The final exam will be held on the day and hour and in the room indicated in the exam calendar approved by the Faculty Board.

(5) Final lab exam (20%) on the activities of auditory discrimination, transcription of an oral text and oral production done throughout the term. Whenever possible, the exam will take place on the same date as the final theory exam. In any case, the day, hour and room will be announced in class and over the MooVi platform well in advance.

In order to pass the course through continuous assessment, it is compulsory for students to obtain at least 5/10 on parameters (3), (4) and (5) mentioned above. As for the specific tasks, students must score at least an average of 5/10 between all requested tasks. Students not satisfying these requirements will not pass the course even if the average mark of the four parameters is 5/10 or above.

b) Exam-only assessment

Students unable to comply with the requirements of the continuous assessment system due to duly justified reasons will have to inform the teacher during the first 15 days of the course. These students will be assessed on the basis of two final exams: a theoretical-practical exam covering all the contents introduced throughout the first term, including obligatory reading assignments from both the coursebook and supplementary sources; and a lab exam on auditory discrimination, transcription of an oral text and oral production. The exams will constitute, respectively, 65% and 35% of the final course grade.

In order to pass the course it is compulsory for students to pass each of the two exams with at least 5/10. Students not satisfying this requirement will not pass the course even if the average mark of the two exams is 5/10 or above. Both exams will be held on the same date, at the same time and in the same room as for students following the continuous assessment. Students are strongly recommended to attend classes whenever they can.

(B) SECOND EDITION OF RECORDS (ACTAS) IN JUNE/JULY

Both students not passing the continuous assessment and students not passing the exam-only assessment on the first edition of records will be assessed anew in June/July for the second edition of records. This assessment will be based on a final theoretical-practical exam and/or a final lab exam, depending on the exam the student failed in December (first edition of records). A mark below 5/10 is considered a fail on any of the two exams or activities (see parameters (3),(4) and (5) of section A(1)) taken in December.

Should the student have passed one of the two exams (the theoretical-practical or the lab part) with at least a 5/10 in the first sitting, that mark will be used to recalculate the final course grade in June/July and the student will only have to retake the part that was failed inthe first sitting.

Students who might have failed in December due to the activities (see parameter (3) in A(1) above) have to retake the final theory exam to pass the course. The final theoretical-practical exam will cover all the contents introduced throughout the first term, including obligatory reading assignments from both the coursebook and supplementary sources. The final lab exam will be based on auditory discrimination, transcription of an oral text and oral production. The exams will constitute, respectively, 65% and 35% of the final course grade. In order to pass the course it is compulsory for students to pass each of the two exams with at least 5/10. Students not satisfying this requirement will not pass the course even if the average mark of the two exam sis 5/10 or above.

For both groups of students, the theoretical-practical exam will be held on the day and hour and in the room indicated in the exam calendar approved by the Faculty Board. Whenever possible, the lab exam will take place on the same date as the theory exam. In any case, the day, hour and room will be announced over the MooVi platform well in advance.

VERY IMPORTANT

- Term exams can only be taken by students on the continuous assessment system who submit/do all other requested tasks/activities.

 - The assessment system cannot be changed (from continuous to single or vice versa) after the first 15 days of the course.

- Not only the relevance and quality of the content of the responses will be considered for assessment (for both continuous and exam-only assessment) but also linguistic and stylistic correction. Non-satisfaction of this requirementmay lead to a fail.

- Any instance of plagiarism (eg. total or partial copy of texts, copying from other students in exams/exercises, etc.) in any exam/assignment/activity will derive in failing the course in assessment call. Claiming ignorance of plagiarism will not exempt the student from liability. See articles 40-42 of the UVigo "Regulamento sobre a avaliación, a cualificación e a calidade da docencia e do proceso de aprendizaxe do estudantado”.

-The teacher
will be able to carry out an assessment in addition to those included in this study
guide in the event that she suspects that any exam or activity has been done totally or partially using Artificial
Intelligence tools without having declared it.

In this
sense, given the impossibility of proving the use of AI, the mere suspicion on
the part of the teacher will be a sufficient condition for the relevant exam/activity
to be considered invalid and replaced by the alternative test/activity, which
will take place on the date and time established by the teacher.

- Exams/tests/submission of activities cannot be rescheduled with the exception of duly justified cases and only due to a major cause. Exchange students must observe the official exam dates and plan their stay in Vigo accordingly.

- Regular class attendance is strongly recommended.
