Other comments on the Evaluation

General remarks

In the first edition of records, there are two assessment systems: continuous and exam-only. The default option will be the continuous assessment system, unless students explicitly communicate their preference for the exam-only assessment system. Students who opt for the exam-only assessment option must inform the lecturers no later than the second week of the course. Participation in one of the assessment systems implies the impossibility of participating in the other.

FIRST EDITION OF RECORDS

1. Continuous assessment option

To be evaluated according to the continuous assessment system, it is essential that student actively participate in class, and complete and submit on time the different tasks proposed throughout the course. Likewise, students who opt for this assessment system must comply with the minimum attendance requirement (80%). Otherwise, they will lose their right to be evaluated by means of the continuous assessment option.

The continuous assessment option consists of three components:

  1. problem-solving or activities carried out inside or outside the classroom, with or without prior notice, covering both the first part of the course (10%) and the second part (10%)
  2. individual written essay where students will provide a summary and critical commentary on the course content, covering both the first part of the course (20%) and the second part (20%), to be written and submitted according to the guidelines provided by the instructor(s) at the beginning of the course
  3. oral presentation on a topic related to the course content, previously agreed upon with the instructor (40%), to be delivered during in-person class sessions on a date set by the instructor(s)

To pass the course, students must obtain a minimum grade of 5 out of 10 in each of the three components. If this minimum is not achieved in any of the components, the course will be considered failed, even if the overall average is 5 or higher.

2. Exam-only assessment option

The final grade of those students who opt for this assessment system will be computed on the basis of the grades obtained in a written exam (100%) on the theoretical and practical aspects of the course, to be held on a date set by the coordinator of the master's degree. This exam will consist of two parts, one for each part of the course, and each of these parts will account for 50% of the final grade. In order to pass the course, it will be essential to obtain a minimum grade of 5 points (out of 10).

SECOND EDITION OF RECORDS

Students who do not pass the course in the first opportunity or do not participate in the first edition of records will be evaluated by means of a written exam (100%) on the theoretical and practical aspects of the course, which will be held on a date set by the coordinator of the master's degree. This exam will consist of two parts, one for each part of the course, and each of these parts will account for 50% of the final grade. In order to pass the course, it will be essential to obtain a minimum grade of 5 points (out of 10).

Important remarks:
  • Exams and continuous assessment assignments are considered official and, therefore, a change of date must always be duly justified by force majeure (accident, surgery or death of a first-degree relative on the exact date of the activity) and, whenever possible, students must inform the lecturers prior to the date of the activity.
  • It is the student's resposibility to be aware of the dates on which the assignments must be submitted and the presentations and exams take place. There is no obligation to communicate those dates through the eLearning platform.
  • In the evaluation of the course, the linguistic and stylistic correctness of the tasks and tests will also be taken into account.

FRADULENT PERFORMANCE:

In accordance with Articles 40-42 of the Regulation on the evaluation, grading and quality of teaching and the student learning process, approved by the university senate on April 18, 2023,

Fraudulent action in any evaluation activity will result in a zero (fail) final grade in the corresponding edition of records, regardless of the grade of the activity in question in the overall grade of the subject and without prejudice to the possible consequences of disciplinary nature that may occur.

Alleging ignorance of what plagiarism or academic fraud implies will not exempt students from their responsibility in this regard.
