General description Dear students,

In this course, we will attempt to address with an updated perspective the various historical, legal, social, political, electoral, etc. elements that shape the design and functioning of the political system in which we are simultaneously involved as citizens and university students. Given the breadth and complexity of the topics to be covered, it is easy to understand that we need to make a very strict compendium of them throughout the academic journey of this course. This is also one of the reasons that advises a different space for the treatment of each of the topics.

A student of this discipline might be tempted to think it is easy to assimilate, as everything in it seems more or less familiar, either due to prior knowledge or the media coverage of the country's agendas that always include some of the elements covered in the program. This would be, in most cases, a serious mistake that must be avoided. Nor should it be thought that there may be an overlap of content with any course already taken; this is not the case because Political Science is the science of realism and therefore goes beyond appearances or illusory normativism, since it can show how behind a beautiful legal framework, even a constitutional one, corruption, nepotism, or mere non-compliance can prevail. Therefore, our objectives are very ambitious: because they aspire to explain how our political model really works in the three parts into which the subject is divided.

Basic information about the course can be found in this course guide and on the Universidade de Vigo's Moovi platform. I also inform you that we will have face-to-face or virtual tutoring sessions depending on the circumstances, respectively, in office 224 of the Faculty of Public Management and Administration or by phone at 986801981, on the remote campus of the mentioned platform, and via email at almira@uvigo.gal.

I hope the subject is of your interest and provides you with useful analytical tools to interpret the complex political and social reality in which we have had the luck to live. Count on me to help you in this endeavor whenever you need it.
