The research on soil transport aims to understand the laws that control the movement of substances in a three-dimensional, complex, and dynamic system, subject to multiple interactions.

Soil transport determines the effectiveness of fertilizers, pesticides, amendments, and residues applied to the soil, as well as the movement of these substances as potential contaminants of surface waters and aquifers. It also allows for the evaluation of the soil’s filtering function as a natural water purification system and plays a role in the global carbon balance.

The objective of this subject is to teach advanced methods for investigating transport, planning, and correctly conducting experiments that allow for the identification of critical processes that control the interaction between water movement and substance transformation processes in the soil. The task of the future researcher consists of rigorously applying geophysical prospecting methods, instrumental chemistry methods, 3D image analysis, and computational modeling to identify the processes that significantly control the transport of substances in agrosystems, with the aim of evaluating the future of soil management alternatives.
