The aim of the Immunochemistry course is to provide students with a basic understanding of how the immune system works and to explore in greater depth the use of its components in the development of immunodetection techniques.
Among these components, antibodies are particularly important. These are specialized proteins capable of recognizing many different types of molecules, both biological and synthetic in origin. Antibodies make it possible to develop a wide range of analytical, diagnostic, and therapeutic techniques, either through their binding to other molecules such as enzymes, particles, or drugs, or in their free form.
Their extraordinary detection capacity is used in many different fields, including medicine, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, agriculture, and the marine sector, among others.
In this course, we will also review the chemistry of the components of the immune system, with the aim of understanding the remarkable capacity of this system to protect us against pathogens and other diseases, such as cancer.
